Who We Are
(Click Here for Joe’s Full Biography and Experience)
Joe has lived in the Brevard, NC area for over 12 years where he first explored and discovered the surrounding mountains and for the past 10 years has worked as a commercial guide. In addition to his work as a guide, he received a bachelor degree in the field of Wilderness Leadership from Brevard College and Master’s in Adventure Recreation from Ohio University.
Since graduating, Joe has taught college courses in climbing, kayking, mountain biking , and backpacking at both institutions. He has attended workshops offered by the AMGA , ACA, AEE, American Canyoneering Academy, and AORE; and holds certifications as a Wilderness First Responder, an American Canoe Association Swiftwater Rescue Instructor, an American Canyon Guide Assoc certified guide, and is a former American Red Cross Instructor.
I have been obsessed with rock climbing since moving to the Asheville area in 2004. The endless physical and mental puzzles, coupled with the mystique of climbing high in beautiful places will simply never get old. From western desert sandstone to 1500 foot vertical limestone cliffs in Mexico to North Carolina’s monolithic granite domes, I hope to hang out in the vertical frontier for a long time. Aside from climbing with friends and family, I am a certified American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Instructor, a board member of the Carolina Climber’s Coalition, and an upcoming co-author to a climbing guidebook. Outside of climbing, I teach the visual arts at a regional boarding school, work as a visual artist in various capacities, and have an incredible wife and beautiful little daughter.
